CSR has been defined as "A company’s sense of responsibility towards the community and environment (both ecological and social) in which it operates” by Business Dictionary. Since the past few years social responsibility has become a matter of great concern to mankind and to the business world as well.
India Power has been making efforts to manage the business process and furnishing an overall positive impact in the society by touching the most crucial spheres including but not limited to health, women empowerment, gender equality, education, environment and other social welfares. The fiscal year of 2016-2017 has been an eventful year with a number of CSR activities taking place in and around all the locations of India Power. It started the year by joining hands with the NGO Operation Smile, supporting their endeavour to create a cleft-free India. IPCL offered space and other required provisions pertaining to the corrective surgeries of the penurious kids at their Kolkata office in Salt Lake, Sector-V. Besides, IPCL has been organizing medical screening camps in small towns and villages offering referrals to tertiary healthcare centres. After creating a success story with Operation Smile, IPCL stepped forward to provide aid to the Leprosy Colony Development Programme in our licensed area of the Asansol subdivision of the Burdwan district covering the areas of Kankardanga, Jamuria, Luchipur and Barakar Leprosy Colonies with the help of the NGO Ujjiban, a socio-economic development centre of the mentioned area. In its business area of Haldia IPCL carried out a health camp on Skin Disease.

Not because UN has stressed upon prioritizing gender equality, but out of its own conscience, IPCL have stretched out their helping hand towards empowering women and maintaining gender equality. IPCL believes that women and adolescent girls have equal rights towards land, health, education, and especially protection. In tune with this perception, IPCL in association with non-profit organization SRREOSHI (Society for Research & Rudimentary Education on Social & Health Issues) executed capacity development and self-help training programmes in Asansol and adjoining areas. SRREOSHI’s primary focus is on sustainable and integrated development of under-privileged groups, especially women and adolescent girls in Bankura, Burdwan and Purulia districts of West Bengal. SRREOSHI conducted a string of capacity building and life-management training sessions in schools of Asansol and Ranigunj area including Marwari Sanatan Vidyalaya, Raniganj (Jan 20-21); Damra Bidhan Smriti High School, Asansol (Jan 27-28); Kanyapur High School, Asansol (Jan 29-30); Aryakanya High School, Asansol (Feb 2-3); and Mohishila School, Asansol (Mar 4-5). Similar sessions were also conducted at a few slums – Raniganj Slum 1 (Feb 6-9); Raniganj Slum 2 (Feb 12- 15); Shaldanga Slum (Feb 20-21 & Feb 27-28). Two more training sessions on life skill management for adolescent girls were held at the Damra Bidhan Smriti High School in Damra, Asansol, on 9th and 17th March. Through such activities India Power is helping spread awareness about violence on women, gender discrimination including early marriage, self management/life skills, gender, sexual and reproductive health (SRH), build capacity and sense of self sufficiency among women and adolescent girls both in urban and rural areas.
As a part of women empowerment drive IPCL, in the presence of Ms. Bonnya Bose, DGM-PR, distributed sewing machines among few of the less fortunate families from Asansol on Dec. 29, 2015 in association with Milan Sangha Club Social Welfare at Radhanagar, Asansol, which is registered under the Society Act of 2009 No-S/IL/58400 and runs a women’s self-help group with programmes in stitching, sewing, etc among underprivileged families from local areas. A donation of one embroidery machine, one interlocking sewing machine, 4 normal electrical sewing machines and support tools for sewing kits was made to benefit about 30-40 women and their families accordingly. Besides they were provided with tips and ideas so as to rightly access the market and earn in accordance with the ongoing market price by negotiating a fair price. India Power Corporation (Bodhgaya) Limited organized for life skill training programmes for women of Kendua village in the Manpur area of Gaya DF in partnering with Roji Roti Sansthan, Bihar. IPCL also provided an income-based and health-based livelihood training programme to 31 women in association with SRREOSHI in the Jamuria area.
Acid Attack is a cancer to the society and a threat to any women. India Power strongly stands against such barbaric activities and hence has associated with Acid Survivors Foundation India (ASFI), a non-profit NGO dealing with acid violence issues.
The great revolutionary Nelson Mandela said “Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world”. However India has an unfortunate scenario when it comes to Education. According to UNICEF’s experts in India, 40-50% of children between 15 and 18 years of age, drop out of schools and are directed towards choosing the life of a child labour. To support the ideology of Nelson Mandela and make an effort to change the fortune of our country, India Power has taken up the responsibility to provide support and required aid to the schools and students in and around its business areas including Gaya, Asansol and Haldia. To keep up the spirit to attend schools high among the children, India Power provided students from Kismat Shibramnagar No. 1 Primary School and Kismat Shibramnagar Purba Sishu Siksha Kendra with woollen garments to keep them warm and comfortable during the harsh winters which have been noticed to be one of the reasons for dropping out. Moreover IPCL has also indulged into installation of ten toilets in Debhog village under Debhog Gram Panchayat as part of the Mission Nirmal Bangla falling under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) of the Union government by joining hands with Purba Medinipur Zilla Parishad. Also they have distributed textbooks to the library of Mother Teresa Academy in Domohoni Bazar, Burdwan along with two desktop computers. India Power has also supported Suryodaya Schools for providing education to underprivileged children. SREI Foundation is building affordable schools with premium education in the name of Srihari Global Schools and India Power is a proud partner of this initiative. Selective meritous students from SD Girls High School, AC Institution and Sanctoria High School, in the Dishergarh region were offered scholarships for further education beyond class VIII. School furnitures and computers were donated two village schools of Purba Medinipur, Kismat Shibramnagar Purba Sishu Siksha Kendra and Kismat Shibramnagar No.1, which falls under the business area of IPC(H)L. The company has also built 3 toilets in a school named Urdu Medium Muslim Girls High School in Gaya Town.

The Second Step is Acceptance” -- Nathaniel Branden At India Power, we ensure to spread awareness among the society dwellers who are within the circumference of our business area about various factors which includes power theft, usage of safe electricity, agricultural knowhow, child labour, smoking hazards, energy conservation, environment etc. For this purpose IPCL has deployed surveillance vans in Gaya, conducted awareness campaigns related to energy conservation, environmental issues, smoking hazards, agricultural knowhow, sexual harassment et. al and have also initiated sapling plantation program in the Wind Power Project areas of Gujarat.
Besides the awareness programs, India Power has also indulged itself into other societal welfare activities. IPCL in association with the NGO, Namo Saltore Vivekananda Bidya Ashrama took up the initiative of cloth distribution among 100 of the less fortunate men, women, and children of the Dishergarh area. They have also successfully built 10 household toilets in Jamuria under the name of Mission Nirmal Bangla with the help of The Jamuria Panchayat Samity and Mr. Buddhadeb Pan, BDO, Jamuria and 10 toilets in SANSAD Number Debhog 1 in Kismat Shibramnagar. The company also has put up “Payment Collection Centers” within the license area, over and above our Central and Regional offices. At the time of the devastating situation in Gaya due to torrential rainfall, IPCL, stretched out its helping hand to reach out to each and every house and handover flood aids like litres of water, packets of dry foods etc. The Swachh Gaya initiative of distributing Water coolers at the Vishnupad and Mahabodhi temple vicinity and restoration of an old temple in a Haldia village of Mouza Kismat Shibramnagar also a notable CSR activity the company has indulged into. Partnering with the polioce department India Power Corporation (Bodhgaya) Limited catered towards the betterment of Tourist Information Centre, Bodhgaya. Football is the most popular sports in Gaya, and IPCL, as a responsible corporate house felt the need of joining hands with the Gaya District Football Association (GDFA) to upgrade the standard of football playing.
India Power has always been upfront to help and develop the society. They never sit back or refrain from any possible help they can stretch out towards the less fortunate of our society. Such a move was made in Bodhgaya where India Power, on the occasion of Mahashivratri, donated refrigerator, washing machine, color television, R.O. Water purifier, gas oven for homeless aged people residing at Vridhya Vridhya Ashram, an old age home located in Bodhgaya
The Meenakshi Energy Limited (MEL) is a new feather added in the cap which has also shown utmost engrossment when it comes to CSR activities. This was quiet notable when MEL pushed into a bus to help move the people to protect them from cyclone Vardah which had hit Andhra Pradesh on December 12 2016. Before Vardah the waves of demonetization, a move by the Indian Government to control black money flow, hit the entire nation. During this time MEL extended their helping hand towards the mass. Meenakshi Energy Limited (MEL) came forward as an aid for orphan children and distributed school bags and stationary items worth ₹50,000 to students of Vatsalya – Janahita orphanage at Nellore on March 18, 2017
With all these activities IPCL ended the year in a good note looking forward to start a new year with new ventures and new promises.
